Happy snoozing babies and parents

With the launch of JOI, we’re celebrating your babies and toddlers! Better sleep isn’t just for parents (though we know you need it!). With crib sheets and soothing Sleep Sacks.

Questions? No worries! We got you.

A baby sleep sack, also known as a baby sleeping bag or wearable blanket, is a type of clothing designed for infants and young children to wear while sleeping. It is a sleeveless garment that covers the baby's body from the shoulders down to the feet, similar to a sleeping bag. It is designed to keep the baby warm and cozy while sleeping, while also providing a safe sleeping environment. Unlike traditional blankets, which can be a suffocation hazard for young infants, sleep sacks are designed to be breathable and to prevent the baby from getting tangled up in the bedding.

Choosing the right sleep sack for your baby depends on their growth and size. We offer three sizes (0-6m, 6-18m, and 18-24m) to accommodate various stages of baby’s development and growth. These sizes can be matched with their clothing size at the time for the best fit.

Sleep sacks are generally considered safe for babies, as they provide a safe alternative to traditional blankets and reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and suffocation. However, it's important to choose a sleep sack that is the appropriate size for the baby and made from breathable materials, like our blend of TENCEL™ lyocell and SIJO CLIMA™ fibers to prevent overheating. It's also important to follow the manufacturer's instructions for use and to avoid using additional bedding in the crib while the baby is sleeping in a sleep sack. As with any baby product, it's always best to consult with a pediatrician if you have any questions or concerns about the safety of sleep sacks for your baby.

Choosing the right TOG rating for a sleep sack can help ensure that your baby stays comfortable and safe while sleeping. Here are some tips for selecting the appropriate TOG rating:

  • Consider the room temperature: The TOG rating indicates how warm a sleep sack is and ranges from 0.5 (for very warm weather) to 3.5 (for very cold weather). At Joi, our temperature-regulating sleep sacks cover a range of TOG scores right in the middle: 1, 1.5, and 2, to accommodate a variety of temperatures.
  • Choose the right fabric: Different fabrics have different insulating properties, so choose a sleep sack made from materials that are appropriate for the season. Even better, choosing temperature regulating fabrics, like our TENCEL™ and SIJO CLIMA™ fiber options, can make the sleep sack more suitable for a range of temperatures and more comfortable and consistent for baby.
  • Adjust layers as needed: If the room temperature fluctuates, adjust the layers of clothing worn underneath the sleep sack to maintain a comfortable temperature.

The recommended clothing layers to dress your baby under a sleep sack will depend on the temperature in the room and the weight and warmth of the sleep sack. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Consider the room temperature: The ideal room temperature for a baby is between 68°F and 72°F (20°C to 22.2°C). Dress your baby according to the temperature of the room.
  • Because a single Joi sleep sack can accommodate a range of TOG scores, consider the layers that may be best: For warm weather and temperatures, dress in light layers: Dress your baby in light layers of clothing underneath the sleep sack. For example, a short-sleeved onesie or bodysuit may be suitable for a moderately warm room. For cool weather and temperatures, vary the layers: Dress your baby in a long-sleeved onesie or bodysuit and consider adding a pair of pajama pants if the room temperature or weather are moderately to very cold.
  • Adjust layers as needed: Check your baby's temperature periodically to ensure that they're not too hot or too cold. Add or remove layers as needed to maintain a comfortable temperature.
  • Avoid hats and additional blankets: If your baby is wearing a sleep sack, avoid using hats or additional blankets, as they can increase the risk of overheating.
  • Remember that every baby is different, so you may need to adjust the clothing layers based on your baby's individual needs and preferences. It's always best to consult with your pediatrician if you have any concerns about how to dress your baby for sleep.

It's important to ensure that your baby is comfortable and safe while sleeping in a sleep sack. Here are some signs to look for to determine if your baby is too hot or too cold in a sleep sack:

Too hot:

  • Sweating, damp hair, or damp skin
  • Rapid breathing or a fast heartbeat
  • Flushed or red skin
  • Restlessness or fussiness

Too cold:

  • Cold hands or feet
  • Shivering or trembling
  • Clenched fists or curled up body
  • Slow breathing or a weak cry

Sleep sack use for newborns depends highly on the activity level of the baby. Many parents choose swaddles for newborns to keep them comfortably bundled. High levels of movement and newborn size mean that the baby may slide out of a sleep sack, hence why the cozy bundling of a swaddle is ideal. As the baby grows, or if the baby is not very active in their sleep, then a sleep sack may be suitable. Many parents prefer to start with a sleep sack around the 3 month mark. Every baby is different, so it is important to monitor and understand the activity level and preferences of your baby.

Care for your baby’s sleep sack in a few easy steps:

  • Close zippers and fasteners: Close all zippers, snaps, and other fasteners on the sleep sack to prevent damage to the garment and the washing machine.
  • Use mild detergent: Use a mild, baby-friendly detergent to wash the sleep sack. Avoid using fabric softeners, bleach, or any other harsh chemicals.
  • Wash in cold water: Wash the sleep sack in cold water on a gentle cycle. Hot water can damage the fabric and cause shrinkage.
  • Hang dry or tumble dry on low heat: Hang the sleep sack to air dry or tumble dry on low heat. High heat can damage the fabric and shrink the garment.

This sleep sack is honestly the best we've tried.

We just upsized and got a matching sheet. It got us through the helmet days with no difficulty in nighttime sleep!

It is the only one doesn't have the zipper under his chin and has button on the shoulder for easy taken off because when he wakes from from his sleep. He is ready to roll. He's got no time to lay still and wait for you to unzip. During the day, we have room set to 74-75 with a short sleeve bodysuit; at night, we have the room set to 70 - 72 with a long sleeve bodysuit.
